An awe-inspiring family day out for just £26. Whitby Abbey has been inspiring visitors for nearly 1500 years – now it’s your turn. Discover stories of saints, poets and Dracula as you explore soaring gothic ruins and take in the stunning sea views.

Visit the house where the young James Cook came to serve his seaman’s apprenticeship. This handsome 17th-century house on the harbour belonged to Cook’s master, the Quaker shipowner, John Walker. It was here, in the attic that the family lodged their apprentices when not at sea serving the London coal trade.

Explore our independent Victorian museum full of stunning collections from local fossils, natural history, model ships, carved jet, toys, costumes to social history. There are artefacts of the famous whaling family, the Scoresbys and also the explorer Captain Cook.
